Celebrating success in our Analyst Community

In our Analyst Community, we've seen some fantastic career development over the course of 2019 and we want to share these successes!

Having recently been promoted, we caught up with Julia (Senior Analyst – Loans) about her analytics journey at Vanquis, the development opportunities and her favourite things about working here...

Congratulations on your promotion this year!

It has been a real pleasure working in the Loans team since I joined Vanquis in December. All the team are super friendly, supportive and have enabled me to grow in my role and have given me lots of opportunities and guidance on varied and interesting projects. I’m looking forward to the challenges and development opportunities my new role will provide.

What was your background before joining Vanquis?

Before joining Vanquis, I had quite a varied background that included working for a wholesaler, a World Rally Championship team and a women’s housing association. I eventually realised what I enjoyed most about all my roles was diving into data and producing reports and analysis to inform business strategy, so the year before I joined Vanquis I completed a masters in Data Science.

What is your role here and what have you been working on?

I’m an Analyst within the loans team and work primarily on acquisitions strategy.

Since joining I’ve had the opportunity to work on a variety of different projects from developing acquisitions MI that help us track performance, to analysing the effectiveness of different marketing campaigns. I have also worked on new pricing strategies as well as developing ways we can increase the population of customers we market to.

We believe a balance of career and personal development is important, how has Vanquis supported you in your own development?

There is a really strong emphasis on PD here, more so than anywhere else I have worked. In particular my line manager has supported me by allowing me to set aside regular time dedicated to learning and development. There is a wide array of online and classroom based learning opportunities, plus plenty of opportunities to practice new skills – such as giving a talk at the monthly analyst forum to develop presentation skills!

What’s the best thing about working here?

There’s plenty to choose from! Aside from having great colleagues to work with and an impressive view from the 28th floor, I have been really impressed by the culture here, in particular being so open and supportive about mental health. We have mental health first-aiders, drop-in sessions, a dedicated wellbeing section on our intranet and colleagues have also shared accounts of their own personal experiences on our intranet. It’s great to work somewhere you can be open, honest and feel supported on such an important matter.

What is your advice to someone considering roles at Vanquis?

Vanquis is a great place to work, so definitely go for it! I think it’s important for candidates to show they align with our core values, in particular demonstrating a real customer focus in all decision making.
