My tech journey at Vanquis

Rita (Principal Service Operations Analyst) is part of the tech team in Bradford that make sure everything is in place for our colleagues to carry out their day to day jobs. As well as this, she also leads the Sports & Social events in our northern HQ and gets involved in many other opportunities to develop her career.

We caught up with her to talk about the culture in Bradford, how she makes the most of the opportunities on offer at Vanquis and what she loves about working here...

Tell us a bit about your team...

My name is Rita and I work as a Service Delivery Manager in the Tech & Change team in Bradford. In my direct team I work alongside Josh and Toseef (Desktop Support Engineers) and Mark (Business Analyst) who are in the picture above.

What’s the most rewarding thing about your job?

The most rewarding thing about the job is getting the right outcomes for our customers. Of course, that includes Vanquis customers, however a large focus for my team is to support our colleagues internally, making sure they have the right technologies and services in place to do their day to day jobs. It’s a good feeling knowing that we are helping “to put people on a path to better everyday life” – which is our company purpose here at Vanquis.

What’s exciting about expanding the tech teams into Bradford?

It’s a really exciting time in Bradford. It’s the first time that we’ll have a full technical product team. It means our current colleagues have a fantastic opportunity to progress in their tech careers in the future and that we can welcome in some new talent externally. I’m looking forward to seeing the teams come together in 2020.

How would you describe the culture in the Bradford office?

The culture is very friendly and diverse. The people make it a great place to work and everyone is happy to help whenever they can.

I’m part of our Sports & Social team and we organise lots of events and treats for colleagues to enjoy throughout the year around different holidays and cultures. As an office we also get treats on a regular basis from daily 5 fruits, to ice creams to popcorn and as well as pizza.

Is there an opportunity to get involved in anything outside of your day to day job?

I get involved in lots of activities outside of my role where I can. I really enjoy making the most out of my time at work. I’ve already mentioned my involvement in the Sports & Social team where I enjoy organising events for my colleagues.

This year I’ve also been part of our ‘Lean In Circle’ events which was where Vanquis organised small groups of women in each office to meet regularly to learn new skills, network, and encourage each other. There’s also lots of opportunities to attend career development events such as speed mentoring, which I like to go to. There’s always a lot going on for people who want to be involved.

Any advice for someone that might be considering applying for a role with us?

I would highly recommend Vanquis to anyone. The people, the culture and the career progression are some of the highlights (as well as the free tea, coffee, hot chocolate and fruit that you get daily).

Our Group and Exco team have recently spent time in building a new Blueprint for the business and a 5-year plan, which has given us all a clear purpose and a clear direction as to where we are heading and how we’ll get there. It involves putting the customer truly at heart of everything we do and how we can continue to improve their Vanquis journey. It’s given us all a real sense of purpose, which gives you a good feeling coming into work to make a difference and working together to achieve it.
